Spring into Action
As we wonder if spring will ever get here, On The Level Home Inspections wants to share some tips and suggestions for getting ready for spring’s arrival. As we continue to watch the rainfall, observe the overall condition of your property.
One of the most important areas to pay attention to is the area around the foundation. Look for areas where water is pooling and heavily saturated. This is an indication of an improper grade. If these areas go untended, future problems such as water intrusion, into the crawl space or basement can occur( We will address those issues in a future blog.) Re-work these areas to distribute the water more evenly and away from your foundation.
Fill and grade any holes or depressions on your property, that may be holding water.
Check the condition of the eaves (the part of a roof that projects beyond the wall that supports it). Check for any deterioration or discoloration. This is usually indicative of leaking gutters. A few dabs of silicone caulk can do the trick. If not corrected this can lead to bigger issues down the road.
Check and clean the gutters.
Make sure the splash blocks and run off leaders are in good condition and are allowing for proper drainage, away from your foundation.
Clean any leaves/debris from around your air conditioning compressor.

Regularly check your washing machine fill hoses for cuts and irregularities to prevent catastrophic water damage. You know they will burst when you’re not at home! The best bet is to replace them with the steel braided hoses.
